Vernon J. Bennett , 66 of Gady Road, Raisin township, died Friday, August 17, 1990, at Provincial House in Adrian.

He was born in Tecumseh, November 13, 1923, to Vernon and Anna (Smith) Bennett. He was a lifetime resident of the Tecumseh and Adrian areas.

On September 25, 1943, her married Eleanor A. Henkel in Colorado. She preceded him in death March 14, 1990.

Mr. Bennett was a member of the Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, where he was the Sunday school superintendent and a choir member from many years. He was employed at Meyers Aircraft in Tecumseh, where he built the OTW plane. He retired from New York Central Railroad. He was an auto mechanic in Tecumseh for several years. He was an avid sportsman, and life member of the National Rifle Association. He also served in the US Air Force during World War II.

Surviving are his mother, Anna J. Bickham of Brooklyn; one son, Vernon "Bud" Bennett of Adrian two daughters, Mrs Donald (Ann) Wolff of Ocala, Florida and Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Shadewald of Adrian; two sisters, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Gooding of Tipton and Doral McKee of Culver City, California; three brothers William Bickham of Grass Lake, Donald Bickham of California and Alan Bennett of Palos Verdes, California; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, father, and step-father, Max Bickham.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1pm at the Grace English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, with the Rev. Kenneth Strack officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery n Tecumseh. Friends may call at Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian on Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
