G. T. BURK IS TAKEN BY DEATH
Prominent Decatur Merchant Dies Today; Funeral Tuesday

George T. Burk, 84, prominent retired Decatur merchant, died this morning at 8:30 o'clock at his home, 228 South First street. Death was attributed to complications.
Mr. Burk was injured in an auto accident at Wadsworth, Ohio six years ago, and had been ailing since that time. He had been bedfast since February 1.
The deceased was active in general merchandise business at Colfax for 22 years, before coming to this city in 1906, when he purchased the Carroll elevator. He operated the elevator and was engaged in the grain business from that time until ill health forced him to retire.
He was a devout member of the First Christian church and a member of the Masonic lodge, of the Scottish rite consistory of Fort Wayne.
Mr. Burk was born in Dover, located in Boone county, on November 20, 1856, the son of Robert Simon and Nancy Bowman-Burk. He was married to Martha E. Dunbar on May 7, 1884.
Surviving, besides the widow are two sons, Avon and Sim Burk, of this city, who are also engaged in the grain business; three daughters, Mrs. Felix Holthouse of Louisville, Kentucky; Mrs. Wayne E. Beavers of Mount Vernon, and Mrs. Harry Sutton of Newton Center, Massachusetts; a brother, Perry E. Burk of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
FUNERAL TUESDAY
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the First Christian church, with Rev. Kenneth Timmons officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery.
The body has been taken to the Zwick funeral home and may be viewed there after 7 o'clock tonight until time for the services.
