LUCY T. GARDINER DIES SUNDAY AT HOME IN NAPLES

Lucy Toes Gardiner, 62, wife of Lewis S. Gardiner at Yorkshire, England, a daughter of George Albert and Elizabeth Swinder Toes.

She sailed from England December 19, 1907. In 1908 she came to Salt Lake City, She married Lewis Stevens Gardiner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 11, 1911 and had resided in Vernal since. Mrs. Gardiner was an active LDS church worker.

Survivors include her husband, three daughters and one son, Emma G. Winward, Mabel G. Goodrich and Amy G. Pope, all of Vernal and Frank Gardiner, of Salt Lake; in addition to four grandchildren.

Services were held today,(Thursday) at 1 p.m. at the Naples Chapel. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. LEWIS S. GARDINER

NAPLES (Special)--Impressive services were held Thursday at the Naples Ward chapel for Mrs. Lucy Toes Gardiner with Bishop LaVell Manwaring conducting. Prayer at the home was offered by Frank Gardiner.

Opening song, "My Prayer," was by a male quartet composed of Frank, Lowe and Orlo Goodrich and Dee Manwaring, accompanied by Mrs. Melinda Goodrich. The invocation was offered by Joseph Collier. Mrs. Lucille Calder sang a solo, "I Think When I Read That Sweet Story of Old," with Mrs. Goodrich accompanying on the organ.

The first speaker was A. G. Goodrich. Gerald Caldwell sang, "Going Home," accompanied by Mrs. Caldwell. Ashel Manwaring was the concluding speaker. Following the song, "Oh My Father" by a male quartet. Bishop Manwaring spoke words of appreciation and the benediction was offered by Bishop Philip Watkins.

Pallbearers were a son, Frank, and sons-in-law, Orlo Goodrich, Lynn M. Pope and Lee Winward. Burial was at the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home. The grave was dedicated by Clarence Palmer.

Mrs. Gardiner was born January 16, 1883 in Yorkshire, England, a daughter of Elizabeth Swinden and Robert George Toes. She was eldest daughter, and a third child in a family of ten, having seven brothers and two sisters. On October 14, 1906 she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Up to the present she is the only member of her family to join the church.

The following year she worked in a woolen mill in Buttershaw near Bradford to earn enough to come to America. On December 19, 1907 she set sail for America. She reached Chicago on New Years Day and from there she came to Salt Lake City arriving there January 4, 1908. Three years later on October 11 she married Lewis Stephen Gradiner in the Salt Lake Temple. Mrs. Gardiner was an active member having worked many years in the Relief Society and Primary.

She is survived by her husband, one son, Frank of Salt Lake City; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Winward, Mrs. Mable Goodrich and Mrs. Amy Pope, all of Vernal; three granddaughters and one grandson. One daughter preceded her in death.
