Sam and Mary Jane seperated in 1909 when Arthur was one year old.

According to the US Census for Locust Grove Twns, Stone Co, Ark, Sam and Jane were living together. Both are listed as being 50 years of age. It appears that they had not separated in 1909 as you have noted. The also appear in the 1910 US Census for Farris Twns, Stone Co, Ark. - dennis

Good day to you. According to the Searcy County Library compilation of cemeteries, Jane Berry died in 1928 and not 1925. There is another Jane Barnes who died in 1925 who is buried in another cemetery. This error has been transferred all across the Internet and Ancestry.com for a number of years. There is also much confusion regarding John Wyatt Berry and John Wayne Berry. John Wayne Berry is my Great-grandfather and my Great-great-grandfather is John Wyatt Berry. John Wyatt Berry died in 1872 after he and his small family moved to Arkansas. This was not the first trip that John Wyatt made to Ark. He was here in 1860 and then moved back to Wayne Co where he married Nancy Margaret Newman. When they came to Arkansas their only child was Mary Jane Berry Barnes; John Wayne Berry was born after they arrived. Some place, I have seen pictures of Mary Jane Berry Barnes stone. It is small, only says Jane Barnes and the year dates. I do have a good photo of Jane and one of John Wayne Berry's headstone. I too have spent years researching my family and have made several trips, one to Searcy and Stone Counties and several calles to Wayne County. Therefore, I too will not post any pictures to memorials that I do not own unless it is strictly an act of kindness.

We made a day trip to Marshall and Mountain View this past week to visit the courthouses and then go to the Scribner Cemetery. Stone Co does not have a death record for Mary Jane Berry Barnes nor the State of Ark. The local Library does not have anything on her. However, a nice lady on the Historical Society Board in Mountain View is checking their records for any information. Sam and Mary Jane had separated prior to her death, according to a family member. There may not be a definitive document relating her death. - dennis
