BARNES, Virgil N. (Age 85) Our beloved husband, father and grandfather entered into rest surrounded by those he loved the most on July 2, 2009 in Spokane, WA. He was born March 2, 1924 in Garfield, WA. Mr. Barnes was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the US Army at the Battle of the Bulge where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a longtime truck driver, retiring from West Coast Grocery in 1986. He was a very patriotic man, enjoyed sports, especially Seattle baseball, and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doreen Barnes, three children, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from noon to 8 PM. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 in the Alwin Chapel at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. Monroe St. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park with military honors.
