Oil Pioneer's Rites Saturday
Funeral services for William Adams, 79-year-old pioneer who entered the "Indian country" by covered wagon 47 years ago, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Glen Pool high school auditorium.
Rev. Ben McCormick, will officiate and the Leonard Funeral home of Bixby will be in charge of the services for the well-known farmer and former oil man who migrated to Oklahoma from Mount Vernon, Ky., in 1895.
After reaching Red Fork, he joined a caravan of 13 covered wagons to make the trip to Wynnewood. He moved to Glen Pool about the time of the oil boom 25 years ago.
Ill for the past two years, Mr. Adams died Wednesday of a heart attack at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Amy Manes, Tulsa.
He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth; two daugthers, Mrs. Manes and Mrs. J. M .Covey, of Jenks, and a son, Dave, of Glen Pool. Seven grandchildren, one in the armed forces, and three great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by three daughters and one son.
