OBITUARY:
Martin Henry Dietrich Oestmann, son of Frederick H. and Anna Bohling Oestmann. was born southwest of Auburn March 31, 1905, one of seven children.
He was baptized in infancy at St. Paul (Hickory Grove)Lutheran church and confirmed at the same church.
He attended Hickory Grove rural school.
On Feb. 2, 1928 he married Magdalene Sophie Augusta Volkmann at St. Paul Luthern Church. Five children were born to this marriage. The early years of their marriage were spent on a farm southwest of Johnson, Ne. in 1953, Martin retired and they moved into Auburn.
They transferred their membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, NE. Martin was active in the Brotherhood, sang in the choir, and taught Sundayschool.
On July 14, 1972, his wife Magdalene died. He continued to live in Auburn. May 10, 1975 he married Alice McClarnen. They made their home in Auburn.
Martin became seriously ill and entered St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, Ne. April 20 where he died May 11, 1982. He had reached the age of 77 years, one month and 11 days.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild and three brothers.
Survivors are wife, Alice, Auburn; daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Gerdes, Auburn; Irma Oestmann, Lee Summit, MO. Mrs. Samuel Rankin, St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Robert Agnew, Hamburg, IA; son, Gerald, Auburn. 22 grandchildren. 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Otto Gobber, Elk Creek, Ne. :Mrs. August Schlange, Bellevue,Ne. and Mrs. Albert Houlton, Auburn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held May 14 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Leland Dickhoff.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Dan Oestmann, Jerry Lee Oestmann, Russell Behrends, Kurt Behrends, Dick Wolf and Gary Richards.
Organist was Donna Caspers.
Burial was in St. Paul Hickory-Grove Cemetery.
