Myron Thomas Annis was born November 15, 1846 at North Collins, NY, the son of Heman Hosford and Betsy C. (Carley) Annis, married 1875, Elizabeth Mace.
Myron enlisted on January 16, 1864 at Delaware County, IA, mustered into government service the same day. On July 12, 1865 he was transferred to the 34th/38th Iowa Consolidated Infantry Regiment and was mustered out at Houston, TX on August 15, 1865. In 1870 he was listed in the Federal census records at Pima, AZ. The next record has him inexplicably changing his name to John Myron Potter and residing at Salt Lake City, UT. He died April 10, 1899 at Sandy, UT.
Enlisted Company K, 21st US Infantry, Nov. 10, 1866. Discharged Nov. 10, 1869, Camp Crittenden, AZ, a Corporal. Reenlisted Company K, 21st US Infantry, Camp Crittenden, AZ, June 14, 1870. Deserted as Sergeant, Fort Boise, ID, May 13, 1873. Apprehended May 13, 1873, escaped June 19, 1873, awaiting trial. Fled to Sandy, UT as POTTER, John Myron.
