CIVIL WAR VET DIES AT HOME EARLY TODAY.
Goodjoin, 90, Succumbs To Heart Attack; Was One of Last Two Veterans.
E. R. Goodjoin, 90, was one of Lincoln parish's last two remaining veterans of the War Between the States, died at his home on the Farmerville Highway early today following a heart attack. Mr. Goodjoin had been in fair health despite his advanced age, prior to stroke, it was said. Funeral services will be conducted from the Douglas Church, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, with Rev. S. F. McFadden, pastor of the Ruston Presbyterian Church and Rev. R. W. Vaughn, superintendent of the Louisiana Methodist Orphange, officiating. Interment will be in the Douglas cemetery under the direction of McLure Funeral Parlors. Mr. Goodjoin was one of the first settlers in Lincoln parish, coming here shortly after the conclusion of the Civil War. The veterans ranks were cut to himself and "Uncle Alf" Fuller, late in 1936 by the death of W. J. Strickland at Choudrant, who with two survivors of the four year struggle between the states, had come to Lincoln parish following the war. Mr. Goodjoin is survived by his widow, who is now said to be seriously ill at the home, four sons, Charles in Texas; Willie and Spencer, Ruston; and Elton, in Oklahoma; and two grandchildren: J. E. Goodjoin and Mary Elizabeth Goodjoin, both of Ruston.
