Nicholas McIntire was born May 28, 1802 in Kentucky, the son of Maj. John S. McIntire, born in Virginia (1760-1826) and Elizabeth Howard, born in Kentucky (1783-1855). After his parents married in 1800, they settled in the Bath and Fleming County area. Nicholas was the oldest child and had four younger brothers and three sisters:
Benjamin H. McIntire (1804-1845),
Van S. McIntire (1807-1842),
Malvina D. McIntire-Congleton (1808-1878),
Amanda McIntire-Metcalfe (1811-1893),
James McIntire (1813-1866),
Mary McIntire-Tabor (1818-1858), and
George W. McIntire (1821-).

On 23 Jul 1828, Nicholas McIntire married Eliza D. Sims who was born in Kentucky (1802-1892) and settled into the life of farming in Fleming County, Kentucky. Nicholas and Eliza had eight children:

Elizabeth Sims McIntire-Adams (1833-1913),
William D. McIntire (1834-1901),
Amanda McIntire-Glover (1837-1907),
Mary W. McIntire-Adams (1840-1920),
Malvina McIntire-Wyatt (1844-1909),
Alvira Jane McIntire-Bailey (1847-1910), and
Andrew L. McIntire (1850-1920).

Nicholas died of pneumonia on Feb 8, 1860 in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was buried in Jones Cemetery, Midland, Bath County with other family members.
