Death of Mrs David E Lewis

Mrs David E Lewis died suddenly at her home near Borden, Madera county, on the 25th inst from paralysis. The deceased was a native of Sumner County, Tenn, and was 74 years of age. Her maiden name was Sallie Douglas Blakemore and she was married to Captain David E Lewis December 16, 1847, and the fruits of their marriage were thirteen children, nine of whom are still living.

Mrs Lewis was one of the pioneer ladies of Merced county, and in the early days of the county was the best known and most popular lady on Owens Creek where she resided. The doors of her home were always open to the deserving, everyone received a hearty welcome and her friends were many. The pioneer citizens of that section of the county will receive the announcement of her death with regret.

Her husband, Captain David E Lewis and the following nine children survive her: Mrs James Burchell, Mrs Mary Jones, Dar E Lewis, Mrs L W Fox, Mrs Sallie Howard, Mrs Jennie McClelland, Mrs Emma Vanness, Mrs Jessie Cobb and Frank Lewis.

The funeral will take place from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Plainsburg this morning at 11 o'clock, and the internment will be in the family plot in the Plainsburg cemetery.
