Memorial service for Freda E. McDaniel, 86, Lawton, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Heights Christian Church with the Rev. Chuck Pettigrew, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. McDaniel died Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Lawton.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Becker Funeral Home.
She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Seminole, to Grover C. and Molly E. Richardson Potts. She grew up in Seminole, and graduated from Varnum High School. She married Spencer Jess McDaniel on Sept. 3, 1949, in Oklahoma City. He died Oct. 3, 2008. During World War II, she worked as a secretary at Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kan. Following the war, she moved to Oklahoma City, where she worked as a secretary for Carter, Humble and Exxon Oil Companies for 38 years. After her retirement in 1985, she and her husband moved to a farm in Mulhall, where they farmed wheat and ran cattle. She moved to Lawton in 2008 to be close to her daughter.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anita Jo and Gilbert Hernandez, Lawton; three grandchildren: Craig Hixon, Perry; Kristi Ford and her husband Chris, Lawton; and Sophia Hernandez, Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren: Kale Hixon, Cameron Ford and Paige Hixon; a sister, Veva Rose, Oklahoma City; a niece, Carlletta Brown, Tryon; a great-nephew and his wife, Michael and Charrissa Brown, Edmond; a great-great-nephew, Austin Brown; a great-great-niece, Taylor Brown; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
