Text of Obituary: Vernon Charlton Hinely, age 77, of Rincon died Sunday, June 5, 1994, at Effingham Extended Care Facility. The Rincon native was educated at Rincon High School, Richard's Business College and Draughon's Business College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII, he was awarded several service bars. He retired in 1974 from Continental Can Company as a buyer. He was mayor of Rincon for seven years and was also a former alderman. He had served as treasurer of the Rincon Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Republican Committee of Effingham County, the Lord Effingham Society, the Marine Resue Squadron 4-A, and the American Camellia Society. He was a charter member of the Rincon Lions Club, and he held lifetime memberships in the Georgia Salzburger Society and the Georgia Municipal Association. He was a member of the Goshen United Methodist Church, having served on the building and finance committees. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Wendelken Hinely of Rincon; a sister, Mrs. Pearl H. Priester of Fairfax, S.C.; a brother, Lacy W. Hinely of Rincon; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Tuesday at Thomas Strickland Funeral Home's Rincon chapel. The Rev. Gordon Dukes officiated. Pallbearers were Sid Walhour, C.G. Zipperer, William Zipperer, Callie Kessler, William Turner, and Newel Kessler. Interment was in Goshen United Methodist Cemetery.
