Veteran War of 1812, served as a Private in Capt, Philomen Greens Co. of the Delaware Militia. He entered the service on 20 May 1813 in Kent Co. Delaware and was discharged on 31 Oct 1813 at Lewiston, Delaware. As a Private he received eight dollars per month.

NOTE: The Pre-Salem Cem. has been abandoned, and it appears the last burials there were in the 1920's. It is located on the Joe Phillips farm, about a quarter of a mile east of the current Salem M. E. Church and cemetery, in Jackson Twp. Effingham Co. Il.
