Dr. Henry Hodges Stansbury attended the Franklin Academy at Reistertown, MD. He taught school for three years and served during the World's Fair at Chicago as one of the officers in charge of Midway. He sent a postcard home to his father, Alpheus, from the World's Fair.

He attended lectures at the University of MD Medical Department and graduated from the Southern Homeopathic Medical College in Baltimore, MD. He was a resident physician at Maryland Home Hospital in Baltimore, MD, for two years.

He began a practice in Cumberland, MD, where he had an office on North Centre Street.

Henry Hodges Stansbury served in World War I as a medical officer. He came home to Baltimore to care for his sister, Agnes Stansbury Cann, during the 1918 flu epidemic. Their brother, Benjamin A. Stansbury died during the flu epidemic.

He was married twice.
