Jack Joseph Babb, 81, faithful Christian and prominent businessman of Ringgold, died at his home on Monday, June 29, 2009.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Walter W. Babb and Minnie Mitchell Babb; sister, Ruth Richardson; and brother, Herchel Babb.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Kathryn Babb; sons, Steven Babb and wife, Linda of Chattanooga, Philip Babb and wife, Melissa, of Atlanta; grandchildren, Jason Babb, Jeremy Babb and wife, Lisa, Ashley Babb, all of Chattanooga, Isabelle Babb and Oliver Babb, of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Parker and Jackson Babb; sister, Judy Wood, of Carrollton, Ga.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Babb, of Ringgold; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Jack, along with his brother Herchel, founded Babb Lumber Co. in Ringgold in 1954 which presently continues as a successful family enterprise. Jack was a longstanding deacon and choir member of First Baptist Church of Ringgold.

He was an active member of the Ringgold Kiwanis Club and Catoosa Habitat for Humanity. Jack was also one of the original founders of Gateway Bank in Ringgold. Jack was an avid private pilot for many years and enjoyed many trips in his plane. He also enjoyed fishing in his leisure time.

Jack's earthly life epitomized the Christian principle of service to others. He will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends, and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at First Baptist Church of Ringgold with Dr. Kerry Bunn, Dr. Dan Whitaker and Rev. Jimmy Hatcher officiating.

Interment will be at Catoosa Memorial Gardens. His body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ringgold First Baptist Church, 7611 Nashville St., Ringgold, Ga. 30736, or to Hospice of Chattanooga, P.O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.
