HARTFORD CITY — Wilbur F. Bowen, 80, passed away June 30, 2009, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

He was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Wilbur J. and Emily M. (Lechien) Bowen, and moved to Hartford City as a child. Wilbur graduated from Hartford City High School in 1946. He married Agnes Schott in Alexandria on Sept. 25, 1954.

Wilbur was employed at Overhead Door for 19 years and then worked as a truck driver for Hartford Concrete Products for 33 years.

Wilbur was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes; his children, Julia and Mark McCleary, Indianapolis, Patricia and Rusty Beedle, De Motte, Mary Bowen, Fort Wayne, Jeffrey and Gayle Bowen, Westfield, Teresa and Terry Maddox, Plainfield, Ill., and Joseph Bowen, Hartford City; 10 grandchildren, Anna and Erik Christensen, Patrick McCleary, Andrew and Daniel Beedle, Abigail, Emily and Matthew Bowen, Margaret and Michael Maddox; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margaret Sills.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dave Newton at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The Christian Wake Service will be held at 5 p.m. today.
