He was discharged 4 months later, September 24, 1930. He was 27, 5'7", blue eyes, brown hair, protestant and a farmer in Marion, SC.
Son of Samuel Melton and Mary Lillian Whittington Lane. Lonnie never married.
MARION - News has just reached Marion that Lawney (sic) Lane, the son of Milton Lane of Marion, died of tuberculosis at the veterans hospital near Asheville Tuesday. Legrande Pace has taken his ambulance to the hospital today to bring the body home. Funeral arraignments have not been announced.

MARION - The body of Lonnie E. Lane, 31, a veteran of the World War, who died at the veterans hospital at Oteen, NC Tuesday morning, was brought to Marion Wednesday and laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery, the Rev. B. F. Allen, of the Marion Baptist Church, performing the funeral services.
He is survived by his father, Milton Lane of Marion; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Stokes of Lamar, Mrs. Ruth Thomas of Mullins, Mrs. Naomi Page of Marion and Miss Lillian Lane of near Marion; and a half brother, Warren Lane of Marion.
C. L. Pace & Son had charge of the funeral arraignments.
