Mabel K Greve, age 80 of 1923 Roosevelt Ave., New Holstein, died Thursday, Oct 28, 1999 at the Calumet Medical Center, Chilton.
She was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Besemmer, Mich., a daughter of the late Jack and Magdaline Smith Thede. She attended New Holstein High School and was employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. for many years. Before retiring, she also worked for the Calumet Equity Insurance Co. Mabel Thede and Gerald R. Greve were married on May 28, 1938 in New Holstein. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She was a longtime member of St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein and the Equitable Reserve Association. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Surviving Mabel is her husband, Gerald; one daughter, Sandra (Thomas) Lechler, New Holstein; two sons, Richard Greve, New Holstein and Ronald (Edith) Greve, Greenfield; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucille Wampler, Manitowoc.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry S. Greve; brothers James, Wilfred, Maurice and Donald Thede; sisters Genevieve (Andrew) Vander Sande and Madalyn (Donald) Oakley.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m., Nov. 4, 1999 at St John United Church of Christ, New Holstein, with the Rev. James Werner officiating. Friends may greet the family from 56 p.m. at the church. A memorial fund has been established in her name. For the past two years, Mabel endured an increasingly more painful battle with diabetes. Her courageous decision to continue to walk until the time of her hospitalization was a credit to her perseverance and integrity. Now, free from pain, she can walk, garden and plant flowers while she waits for loved ones to join her. May God bless Mabel on her spiritual journey.
