Son of Jergen Heinrich Oestmann and Marie Sophie Roetjer.

July 30, 1889 - Married Ida Maria Dorothea Christine Hogrefe, daughter of Heinrich "Henry" Hogrefe and Maria Rosebrock. Their wedding took place at the home of Franze Moerer Sr. (witnesses were: Frederich Moerer and Ernest Oestmann).

Obituary:
Henry Christopher Friedrich August Oestmann was born January 18, 1854 on the estate Gackenhof, Walsrode, Kingdom of Hanover, Germany, the eldest son and child of Henry Jurgen Christopher Oestmann and his wife, Sophie Dorathea, nee Ehlers. On Febuary 19, 1854, he was baptized into the name of the Triune God by Pastor Staats in the city of Walsrode. Here he was also confirmed in the Lutheran faith on Palm Sunday, 1868. He remained a faithful member of the Lutheran church till his death.

He received his education in the elementary and later the high school in Walsrode. After completing his education he remained in his father's home for a period of three years, after which time he entered military service for his Fatherland, serving in company 2, First Regiment Cavalry. He served a period of three years, during which time he distinguished himself as an athlete and expert horseman. Upon completion of his service he decided to immigrate to America and in November, 1878, he left his native land and came to this country, coming to this vicinity in December of the same year.

Two years later his fiancee joined him, coming to America from Cordingen, Germany. She was Ida Marie Dorathea Hogrefe, daughter of Henry Hogrefe and wife, nee Rosebrock. They were united in marriage on July 30, 1880, at the Franz Moerer, Sr.,home by Pastor Dirks of the Stone church.

Mr. Oestmann became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church at Hickory Grove, where he served many years as an elder. He engaged in farming, winning for himself material success and above that the respect and admiration of the community as an honest and trustworthy man and a good citizen, His years of farming were spent on the farm where his son, Otto, now lives.

In 1908 he built the home where he lived till the time of his death, one and a half miles west of the Hickory Grove Church. At this time he retired from active farming, spending his time taking care of his orchard and garden.

In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Oestmann enjoyed the rare privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr.Oestmann was blessed with excellent health till February, 1935, when he suffered a paralytic stroke. Since that time he was in failing health but able to be around most of the time till recently. He bevcame critically ill on October 12 and passed away at his home Wednesday morning, October 27, at 8:15, having attained the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 9 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow and five children: Otto of Johnson, Ne. Frieda, Mrs. Gustav Lunzmann, of Enders, NE. Louise, Mrs. Herman J. Stutheit, of Johnson, Ne. Erna, Mrs. Louise C. Jensen of Lincoln, Ne. and Laura, Mrs. Pierre F. Marchand, of Auburn, Ne., four sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one sister, Mrs. Hermine Moerer, Glendale, California, one brother, August Oestmann, Pomona, California, and nineteen grandchildren. Two brothers, Friedrich and Ernest preceded him in death and two sisters, Sophie and Clara, died in infancy.

Funeral services were held Saturday October 30, at 1:00 p.m. at the house and at 1:30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hickory Grove, Interment was made in the Hickory-Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were eight grandsons; Arnold, Erhardt, Werner, Norvel, Wilbert, and Melvin Oestmann, and Elmer and Reinhardt Lunzmann.
