Vernon Castleman
Vernon "Bill" CASTLEMAN, 81, R.R. 1, Rochester, died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial hospital, South Bend. He had been in failing health for two years.
Mr. Castleman was born Jan. 17, 1897 in Marshall county to Caleb and Ida ONSTATT CASTLEMAN. He had lived his entire life in the Rochester area. His first marriage was to Gladys GARNER in 1920; she died in 1957. His second marriage was to Geneva MORRIS in 1961, who survives.
Mr. Castleman and his brothers ran livestock sale barns in South Bend, Plymouth and North Judson. He was a semi-retired farmer and livestock dealer. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist church and of the former Redman lodge in Rochester.
Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Parke (Frances) BAXTER, R.R. 4, Rochester, and Mrs. Nelson D. (Carolyn) HUNTER, Jr., R.R. 4, Rocester; three grandchildren, Douglas BAXTER, LeeAnn BAXTER POLLOCK and Jeffrey HUNTER, all of Rochester; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha BAILEY, South Bend, and Mrs. Bess WARNER, Friendwood, Texas, and a brother, Clyde CASTLEMAN, Leiters Ford. Seven brothers and sisters preceded in death.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Paul STEPHENSON officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Rochester. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to time of service Friday.
