Thomas D. Vredenburgh II, of Springfield, president of the Vredenburgh Lumber Co. since 1925, died yesterday at Memorial hospital. He was 72 years old.

Mr. Vredenburgh, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was born March 24, 1878, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Vredenburgh. His grandfather, John S. Vredenburgh, founded the lumber company in 1855. His grandfather, who served as mayor of Springfield, issued Abraham Lincoln's death proclamation and served as a pallbearer at Lincoln's funeral.

Mr. Vredenburgh attended McClernand grade and Springfield High schools. In 1899 he was married to Lucy Pease, who is now Mrs. Horatio Gilbert, of Miami Beach, Fla. He was married in 1920 to Katherine Powell, of Chicago. She died in 1929.

The Vredenburg family came to the United States from Holland in 1629. The family founded a 75,000 acre tract at Vredenburgh, Ala., where a sawmill is located.

Mr. Vredenburgh is survived by one son, W. Ogden Vredenburgh, of Riverton, vice president of the lumber firm; one brother, Robert O. Vredenburgh, of Lake Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Clifford S. Merrick, of Orlando, Fla., and two grandchildren. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church here.

Funeral services will be held at the family residence and burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.

First wife Lutye Pease Vrendenburgh Gilbert is buried in the Vredenburgh plot in Oak Ridge. His second wife Katherine/Catherine Powell Vredenburgh was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Chicago, in the Powell family mausoleum according to her obituary.
