In the census of 1840 it is Pelham W. Ripley, aged 76. He may have been one of those called Pirum Ripley in the rolls, one being another pensioner living in New York.


Born Pelham Ripley at Duxbury, MA, baptized 19 Oct 1766 at Duxbury (Church Records), son of William and Lydia (Hunt) Ripley. Several close relatives of Pelham's moved from MA to upstate NY around the time of the Revolution. There is no record of his marriage in MA, so he may have married after moving to NY.
