A y-DNA test of great grandson William Carl Adams suggests that William's father was an Etchison. There are a number of Etchisons from North Carolina that showed up in Madison County, Indiana shortly before Williams' birth. Unfortunately, the Madison County courthouse burned down around 1880 and most early records were lost.
Autosomal DNA results support that he was a grandson of John Etchison (1746-1803). His most likely father was James Etchison, who married the widow Anna (Black) Sweet, but proving that may be impossible.
