Born Henry Augustus Terry, perhaps in Cheyenne, Wyoming (although his parents then lived in Denver). His mother remarried when he was very young to Dr. Henry Highway Nast and Augustus always used Nast as his surname. During WW I Augustus served in the US Army Signal Corps where he reached the rank of Sergeant First Class. Augustus worked at various jobs throughout his life, including plumbing and as a camera man. Eventually he became a fireman like his brother, "Whit," who was a fire captain. Augustus has no known descendants.
