David Lee Olson was born Feb 2, 1938 (Ground Hog's Day), in Rawlins, Carbon County, Wyoming. His parents were Stanford Ingle Sexton Olson (1909-1976) and Katharine Jacobson (1911-1973). David had one sister: Shirley Olson-Bradley (1940-).


After his father joined the SeaBees during World War II, the family moved to Long Beach, California, where his mother and other American women worked as "Rosie the Riveter." After the war, the family moved to Arizona for a short time. His parents divorced and his mother moved them to Boulder City, Nevada, where David graduated from Boulder City High School, and where he was very popular and well-liked.


David was drafted into the US Navy, and settled in Southern California after his honorable discharge. David met his wife in California and they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1962. They had one child, Ed (1964-2024).


Entering for elective surgery, complications occurred and David died at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on December 2, 1988. His immediate family surviving him at the time of his death: his wife, son Edward, a stepdaughter Kathy, his sister Shirley and her husband John, and two nephews, Chad and Travis.
