Verlan Chance, longtime Wagoner resident, died on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Wagoner Care Center, at the age of 87. Services were hat 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Shipman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Murphy officiating. Burial followed in Pioneer Cemetery. Verlan W. Chance was born to Marion and Mary Ann Chance in Stilwell on May 6, 1922. He married Reta (Blair) in Claremore on Aug. 29, 1942. The couple made their home in California for a few years after they were married. They then moved to Wagoner, and operated their dairy and later moved on to Westville, where they also operated another dairy. He also worked as a shipping and receiving operator for Baldor Motors. In 1983 they moved back to Wagoner where he worked for a number of years at Wagoner County District 2 as a road grader operator until he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Arthur, Oda, Jim, Truman and Pete; two sisters, Iva and Ruby; and one daughter, Laurie J. Adams. He is survived by his wife Reta of Wagoner; one son, Chad Chance of Edmond; one sister Anna Baker of Wagoner and one brother-in-law, Coy Baker, all of Wagoner; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
