James Overton Alston, 94, one of Morrilton’s early mayors and an early resident of Conway county, died at his home in Morrilton, April 17.
He was born at Ozark and served as Franklin county clerk for two terms before moving to Morrilton in 1886.
He was engaged in the mercantile business at Morrilton and was associated with the Morrilton Compress. He is survived by three sons, John and William of Little Rock and Lawrence of Morrilton; one daughter, Miss Hannah Alston of Morrilton. Funeral services were held at the chapel of the First Presbyterian church Sunday by the Rev. Andrew E. Newcomer jr.
