Edna Mae Young was born in 1877 and died in 1884 in Olympia, WA of an accidental drowning at age 7 1/2. James "Jimmie" Tilton Pickett, a local painter from Olympia, painted a charcoal death portrait of Edna Mae Young in 1885. The painting was accidentally left in the attic during a move of the family residence, subsequently becoming "property" of the Rose family who refused to return the painting to the distraught family.
