The Brookshire Times, November 17, 1955:

Joseph Goree Lummus, Sr., Houston Lighting and Power manager at Sealy, died in the Methodist Hospital in Houston on November 10th after being seriously ill for one month.

Services were held in Sealy at 3 p.m. on Nov. 11. Rev. John Tripp, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sealy, officiated. Burial was in the Sealy Cemetery.

Mr. Lummus was 61 years old at the time of death. He was born and reared in Oletha, Tx. He has been employed by the Houston Lighting and Power Co. since 1928, and was manager of the company's business in Katy until 1941 when he was transferred to the Sealy office. He was affectionately known as "Red" Lummus and was loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Lummus; 6 daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Warren, Mrs. Gloria Magill, and Mrs. Dorothy Ball of Houston, Mrs. Louise Kuchara and Mrs. Jonell Cooper of Rosenberg, and Mrs. Zoe Ann Kiesewetter of Bellville; 2 sons, Joseph Jr. of Bellaire and Bobby of Sealy; one sister; three brothers; and seven grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 442, the Masonic Lodge 289, the Bellville Royal Arch Society, and Council of R. and S. Masters.

A Masonic ante-burial service was held at the Sealy Masonic Lodge at p.m. previous to service at the funeral home.
