Vernon C. Benson, 78, of 340 Creston Ave., a retired nursing assistant with the Veterans Administration Medical Center, died of myocardial infarction Thursday at Hinds General Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home with burial in Lakewood Cemetery South. Visitation is after 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Benson, a Newhebron native, had lived in Jackson since 1946. He was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center for 36 years. Survivors include: wife, Dorothy; daughter, Linda Fay Mogel of Richland; sisters, Mary Pierce and Ruth Camerson, both of Purvis; and two grandsons.
