Joseph Taylor Jackson was one of about 15 children born to Joel Jackson (1848-1899) and Mary Ellen Hamrick (1847-1910). Joel was named Joseph J Rowe but took the name Joel Jackson between 1870-1880 after he was accused of killing a Negro and left the state of Tennessee. Joseph Taylor Jackson went by Taylor. He is buried at Egner Cemetery, Salado, Independence County, Arkansas.

Taylor Jackson married Maggie Bullard and they had two sons: Frank J Jackson 1901-1981 and Floyd W Jackson 1903-1984. The sons are also buried at Egner Cemetery.
