OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Jan 15 1975 "Obituaries: Gustavia [Gustava] Leppanen"
Mrs. Samuel (Gustavia) Leppanen, 82, Caspian, passed away after a year's illness on Wednesday, January 8 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
Mrs. Leppanen was born August 28, 1892 in Peraseinayoki, Finland and came to this country from Finland in 1914. She settled in Commonwealth, Wis. for a few years and then resided in Caspian for over 50 years. She married Samuel Leppanen in 1913 in Finland and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1963.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Fannie) Martin, Palmer, Alaska, Mrs. Jack (Innie) Cooper, Anchorage, and Mrs. Milan (Lila) Pelouch, Libertyville, Ill.; two sons, John of Sutton, Alaska and Walter, Fort Wayne, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A son Martin passed away on March 14, 1968.
Funeral services were on Saturday, January 1 at 1 p.m. at Duvall Funeral Home with the Rev. John Linna officiating.
Mrs. Tom Sleeman sang "Under His Wings" and "In A Land Where You Never Grow Old," accompanied by Mrs. Harold Anderson, organist.
Interment was in Stambaugh Cemetery.
Duvall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

1940 US CENSUS for Brady Avenue in Caspian Michigan shows Sam Leppanen head age 45 born abt 1895 Finland married miner. Gustava wife age 47 born abt 1893 Finland married. John son age 19 born abt 1921 Wisconsin. Walter son age 12 born abt 1928 Michigan. Lila daughter age 10 born abt 1930 Michigan.
