They were in a nursing home in Oregon near the end of their journey. The stay there was also with her daughter Jeanetta that was cook there while they lived in the home.
I an not sure how many times Clarence was married before Ella. It was said she was married about 5 times or more. I could only find 4 husbands.
I have this information about Clarence

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
Taney County, Missouri was formed from Greene County in 1837. Forsyth is the
County seat of Taney County. Census records available 1840-80.
County records were destroyed by fire in 1885, but some real estate records are in existence through the records of Mr. Chas. H.Groom, Abstractor, at the time, who was convinced that a second set of records should always be main tained.
In the following marriage records, affidavits are recorded proving the marriage of certain parties prior to 1885, the records of which were destroyed in the fire, and they desired to again record their marriages for posterity.
I found this marriage record in Taney County, Mo and I wonder if this could be his father's marriage. Ella was in Taney County, Mo about 1900. CH Backus was 21 in 1892 and would have been of the age to have a child born in 1893.
