Clement R. Jarka, 85, Michigan City, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. in his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Buffalo and 10th streets, Michigan City with the Rev. James McGrogan officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery Mausoleum, Michigan City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. and the American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and VFW Post 2536 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. both Thursday evening in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. They will conduct full military services at St. Stanislaus Cemetery Mausoleum, Friday.

He was born Feb. 24, 1924 in Michigan City, to Frank J. and Margaret H. (Novak) Jarka.

In Michigan City, on April 12, 1947, he married Barbara Jane Osos, who preceded him on Jan. 8, 1994. In Michigan City, on May 24, 1997 he married Dolores "Dee" Ramion Jones, who survives in Michigan City.

Also surviving are daughters, Sue (William Smith) Clemons of St. Joseph, Mich., Connie Gorski of Michigan City; stepdaughter, Kimberly (John) Putchaven of La Porte; stepson, James Jones of Michigan City; nine grandchildren, Becky Rydzinski and Julie Copeland both of St. Joseph, Mich., Chris Hollingshead and Kip Hollingshead both Michigan City, Kelly Hollingshead of Bloomington, Ind., Lacey Gorski, Summer Gorski and Andrea Mizer, all of Michigan City, Brittney Putchaven of La Porte; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerome "Lefty" Jarka of Michigan City; sister, Shirley Frankin of Eulless, Texas and many nieces and nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by brother, Frank "Ed" Jarka

Member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 432, Moose Family Center 980, and the American Legion Skwiat Post 451. He retired after 35 years with NIPSCO as a gas serviceman.
