Margaret Laun Afton, formerly of Essex and Newport, R.I., died Feb 14 at Chesterfield’s Health Center in Chester. She was 93.
She was born in New Holstein, Wis. She worked in real estate in Santa Barbara, Calif, and represented the busines her father started, A. A. Laun Furniture Co. in Northern California while she lived in Palo Alto, Calif. She also lived in Europe for two years.
She lived in Newport for 20 years, where she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, president of the Altar Guild, and a member of the Newport Republican Women’s Council, of which she was a past president. She was also founder of the Newport Wellesley Club, a member of the Hill Association and a member of the Alliance Francais.
She is survived by three children, Wendy Rieder of Essex, John Afton of New York City and Diane Aeschiman of Killingworth; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newport.
