On September 20, 1834 as Daniel Derr, he married Catherine Dertzbaugh in Frederick County, Maryland.
They were the parents of seven children.

Obsequies of Mr. Derr. The funeral of Mr. Daniel Derr took place Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family's residence on West Patrick Street. The body was conveyed to Mount Olivet Cemetery and there interred. Rev. E.R. Eschbach of the Reformed Church, assisted by Rev. J.J. Kantner, Chaplain of the Order of Red Men, conducted the service. The pall bearers, all members of the I.O.R.M. were Messrs Edward Gittinger, John C. Hardt, Adam Gault, John Hergesheimer, M. Morningstar and James Staup. The undertaker was C.C. Carty.
