Winifred "Winnie" Byrum was born to the marriage of two Pioneer California families. She was blessed to have lived her entire life in the Central Valley of California. In fact, until her passing, she lived in the same two bedroom home she and her sister Marguerite shared once the family ranch in Salida was sold. Winnie always found time to contribute to her community; serving as a youth ambassador, election judge, and local historian, were but a few of her many interests.

As is true for four of the eight Byrum children who survived to adulthood, Great Aunt Winnie never married or had children of her own. She did, however, have many nieces and nephews through three generations who loved her dearly. She was a strong and loving woman. Much like her mother, she perceived Family as the most important aspect of human living.
