Lena's maiden name was Bartels. Her mother's maiden name was Engel. Her first husband was Charles Frank Stimson Hart. Her second husband took Lena's maiden name as his surname, i.e., Bartels. Here's why . . .
Frank Alfred Deis (his real name), known to me as Frank/Franklin Bartels, deserted from the Navy in 1922 while at Tachoma, WA. I don't know if he and Lena were ever officially married, but Frank assumed HER maiden name (Bartels) and they lived together until his death in 1953. They had two children one of whom is still living.
I only recently (2012) traced the real identity of grandpa "Bartels," using New York Birth records and his Navy Records.
