Bio: Benjamin A. Lee enlisted as a Captain on October 15, 1863, and was mustered in as commander of Company G, 2nd Mississippi Infantry (African Descent), later designated the 52nd U.S. Colored Infantry. He was mustered out on June 9, 1866.
He enlisted in Co., B., 13th Regt., U.S. Regulars, as a private, at Keokuk, IA, in Sept., 1861, leaving the Academy for that purpose, was in various engagements, and sent to Helena, Ark., in one engagement his hat was pierced by a bullet, was promoted to Captain of a company of Union Volunteers in a Mississippi regiment. He was at the siege of Vicksburg, was discharged at the close of the war, after four years' service. He took up his residence at Vicksburg after the war, and was elected mayor in 1872, which office he held till his death, was in the banking business. His health failing, by consumption, he was induced to try the climate of Texas. He died at San Antonio. His wife died at Vicksburg. Children: infant son b. Dec. 1866; Gertrude born Nov. 1867, died March 1868; Walter and twin sister Grace born Dec. 11, 1868, Walter died April 1869; Bertha born Nov.16, 1870.
