Burnis Roland Acuff, 81, of Charleston, a retired Navy chief warrant officer and checker with the International Longshoremen Association Union, died Thursday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. A vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at James A. McAlister Funeral Home.

Mr. Acuff was born in Bells, Tenn., a son of Marvin M. Acuff and Mary Ellington Acuff. He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Irene Krishart Acuff; two daughters, Margaret A. Reuthinger of Alexandria, Va., and Irene A. Fili of Charleston; four sons, R. LaMar Acuff of Hilton Head, Burnis S. Acuff of Hanahan, Lucian M. Acuff of Chantilly, Va., and David A. Acuff of Charleston; three brothers, Marvin M. Acuff of Carrollton, Texas, Mack M. Acuff of Memphis, Tenn., and Travis Acuff of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and 13 grandchildren.
