Jessie Nelean Aldous Phillips, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, age 87, passed away peacefully May 31, 1998, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Nelean was born on Aug. 17, 1910, in Huntsville, Utah, the daughter of John Henry and Emmaline Peterson Aldous. She married Virn Elias Phillips in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Sept. 16, 1929. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nelean graduated from Aberdeen High School. Her first home with Virn was in Aberdeen, where they farmed and built a close-knit family of seven children. The family moved to Cashmere in 1951, where Virn and Nelean established lifelong friendships. Nelean was a favorite aunt and beloved grandmother and was loved by all. Her home was a gathering place for friends and was a peaceful abode for all who visited. She was a longtime employee of the Cashmere public schools cafeteria, where her smiling face greeted children each day as she served them a hot lunch.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings. She served in Relief Society, Sunday school, and as an ordinance worker in the Seattle Temple. She also served two full-time missions for her church, traveling far from her home with her husband, Virn. They served in the Southern Australian Mission and in the Kentucky Illinois Mission as well as on several Stake Missions. She was a volunteer for the March of Dimes and Civil Defense, where she was an observer during the Korean War years. She also served as hostess at the Cashmere Museum for several years. Her quiet service to others and her sweet words of love and advice were a comfort to many.

Nelean was preceded in death by her sister, Elma; brothers, Marvin, Charles and Joe; her son, Glen (Ruth); and grandson, Stacy. Nelean is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Virn; six children, Blaine (Jean) of Olympia, Verna (Louis) of Firth, Idaho, Marva (Mick) of Vancouver, Wash., David (Myrna) of Bountiful, Utah, Elma of Cashmere, and Ted (Diane) of Sandy, Utah; 39 grandchildren; and 69 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Laura, of Sacramento, Calif.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew our Angel Mother, but we know that she is happily reunited with her dear son Glen, her sister Elma, and her brothers and parents who, with the Savior, have received her with open arms of joy.
