Child Makes Attempt to Cross Roadway And Is Struck -
Billy Borden, aged 11 years, died instantly Monday afternoon after being struck by an automobile said to have been driven by a man whose name is given as Young. The child and the driver of the car were both residents of Landersville, Ala, west of Moulton, Lawrence County. The accident was described as unavoidable.
According to details reaching here today the Borden child walked directly in the path of the approaching car and was killed instantly, the automobile striking the child and then passing over the body.
The child was taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reason Borden.
It was learned that the driver of the car which stuck the child was attempting to pass a wagon along the road when the accident occurred. It was said that the child stepped directly in the path of the automobile, coming into view too late for the driver to stop the machine in time to avoid hitting the child. The lad is declared to have stepped around the wagon, apparently attempting to cross the roadway.
Funeral services were to be conducted this afternoon at Landersville for the child victim, interment being made at that point with Priest, of Decatur, directing.
The death caused a pall of gloom to settle over the Lawrence county community where the bereaved family is well known.
