Was principal of Flint-Groves Elementary. Every Monday morning Mr. Hancock held Chapel where he gave lectures on honest, work ethics, self-discipline, honor, citizenship, history and classical music. I never missed Mondays! He was principal of Flint Groves Elementary School in Gastonia, NC for 30 years. Upon his retired (1956) the school was re-named R.K. Hancock Elementary in his honor. That same year he and his wife, Pearl, moved to the top of Lookout Mountain, where they lived adjacent to Rock City in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The oldest building was razed in the 1990's and a new replacement school named Brookside Elementary was built on another site. The remaining buildings on the old campus house a church, office space and County offices serving the handicapped. I am sure Mr. Hancock would approve of these new uses.
