Uncle Pleas was a real southern man. He loved the Hill Billy music and used to sing around the house. When we visited we always got a big kick out of his singing.
He was born to James Thomas Maxwell and Martha Ann Harris in 1896 in Cookeville, Tennessee.
He married 1) Margaret Josephine (Josie) Maxwell and they had three children, Mildred, Reba and Ray. Josie died just a couple of weeks after the birth of their son in 1920.
In 1922 he remarried to one of the sweetest women I know, my Aunt Maud, 30 Nov 1922. They had four children, Howard, June, Dorthy and Leon and raised the other children as well.
In 1930 they moved to California. They lived in Madera. Bless these sweet souls,I truly loved them all.
