He married Lorrine C. Munsch Sept. 5, 1942 in Cheyenne, Wyo. She died Feb. 9, 1978. He married Louise Befort Klaus Aug. 31, 1979 in LaCrosse.
He was a lifetime resident of Rush County, a parts mangager for L and W Motors and a truck driver for Rush County Highway Dept. until his retirement in 1989. He was an army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the VFW Post No. 3147, both of LaCrosse.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Sharon A. Herrman and Donna Basgall, both of LaCrosse; one stepson, Ken Klaus, Wellington; three stepdaughters, Betty Schaffer, LaCrosse, Elsie Dreher, Hoisington, and Mildred Klaus, Ellis; two brothers, Harold J., LaCrosse, and Stephen Jr., Hayward, Calif.; eight sisters, Esther Schafer, LaCrosse, Helen Rupp, Plainville, Mary Edna Munsch, Cheyenne Wells, Colo., Ruby Herrman and Leona Klein, both of Ellinwood, Betty Martell and Anita Ruder, both of Hays, and Frances Holopirek, Timken; and six grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Rudolph, one stepson, Dean Klaus, and one stepdaughter, Patty Beaky.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church, LaCrosse, with Father Eugene Kenny officiating; burial in the LaCrosse City Cemetery with full military honors by Fort Hays VFW Post No. 9076. A rosary service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Janousek Funeral Home LaCrosse. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Rush County Memorial Hosepital.
