Violet "Pearl" Clark was born to James Carl Clark and Rose Elizabeth Twitchell. She is their fifth child and third daughter.

She is the sister to Marvel, Charley, Harry, and Lillian.

Pearl married Charles "Walter" Shoemaker and together they
became parents to Charles "Myrten", Katharyn Lula Inez, and a twins who died at birth.

Pearl was a very hard worker all her life. She was the sole provider for her family and worked at many restaurants in Santa Barbara County. Pearl and her family at one time own the only hotel and restaurant in Los Almos, California.

During World War II she work at Camp Cook in California (now Vandenberg Air Force Base) as the Post Mistress and PX manageress. She would often bring home service men for a home cooked meal. The service men were very fond of Pearl and appreciated her kindness.

During her life Pearl came to know some pretty famous people. She worked for a prominent family in Santa Barbara County on their ranch. She was their cook and housekeeper. She cooked for Fess Parker, Ronald Regan, and Gregory Peck just to name a few. She really like Gregory Peck because he would always come into the kitchen to pays his compliments to her on her the meal she prepared that evening. Ronald Regan was her least favorite because he would come into her kitchen and tell her how to cook. She was even sent to Vandenberg Air Force Base to pick up a "special parcel". That "parcel" turned out to be Senator John F. Kennedy. He had come to have a meeting with the Democratic Party leaders of California. She didn't know who he was only that he was important. It wasn't until he was elected president that she told us about her "parcel". Pearl was a very humble lady and never bragged about knowing these celebrities. The only people who knew about the famous people she met where those in her family.

Pearl's husband Walter died in 1974. She came to live with her daughter during this time. Her great-grandchildren loved to go to Grandma Pearl's mobile home to get "goodies" she had waiting for them.

She was a very active senior citizen and was a member of many clubs for seniors and held various positions in the clubs, mostly as secretary.

She later suffered a stroke that left her unable to speak and use her left hand and leg. Her family had to make the difficult decision to place her in a convalescent home. Her family made sure that she was visited often.

My dear, sweet Grandma Pearl was the salt of the earth and would give anyone the shirt off her back and would feed anyone who needed a meal. She was the most caring and loving lady anyone could ever know or call their friend. I am honored to call her my Grandma!!
