Rites Conducted at Carroll for N. H. Dowling, 71

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church in Carroll for N. H. Dowlingl, 71, who passed away Friday morning at his home in Carroll after suffering a stroke.

Rev. C. Edwin Anderson officiated at the services. Interment was in the Randolph cemetery under the direction of the Hiscox Funeral Home of Wayne.

Pallbearers were Charles Hintz of Belden, Frank Vlasek and Beach Hurlburt of Carroll, Russell Nagel of Brunswick, Forest Shriner of Pierce and W. J. Cuningham.

Mrs. Clause Sellon and Mrs. C. N. Anderson sang at the services and Mrs. Herbert Hilderman was organist.

Norton Herbert Dowling was born January 26, 1890 at Ida Grove, Ia. to Norton H. and Elmina Jenks Dowling.

He came to Nebraska from Iowa in young boyhood and, with the exception of five years spent at Hugo, Colo, he lived in the Randolph community continuously until he and Mrs .Dowling moved to Carroll in 1952. He was married March 24, 1914 in Cedar County to Ruth Axelson.

Mr. Dowling was a member of the Methodist church at Carroll.

Survivors in addition to the widow, Ruth, are one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Lulu) Rose of Walthill; four sons, Norton H. and Glenn of Randolph, Melvin of Carroll and Vernon of Pierce; 23 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

Mr. Dowling was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brother and two sisters.

Relatives and friends present for the funeral were from Chillicothe, Mo., Scenic, So. Dak., Council Bluffs, Ia., Lincoln, Blair, Oakland, Columbus, Hartington, Walthill, South Sioux City, Belden, Laurel, Jackson, Allen, Brunswick, Pierce, Carroll and Randolph.
