Maynard and Sara had three children: Lt William Maynard Agnew Jr. 1923-1945 (fighter pilot in WWII); Jane Bethene (Agnew) Vidal 1924-2013; and David Frazer Agnew 1932-2001. They first settled in El Dorado Kansas, then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, finally relocating to Albuquerque, New Mexico during the dust and drought of the 1930s.
A World War I veteran, Maynard served as a sergeant in the Machine Gun Troop of the 1st US Cavalry, patrolling the US-Mexico border on horseback. He is buried in the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
