Wilmer Marvin Ramsdell was born in Racine, WI.
He served as a baker's apprentice during his teen years in Peshitgo, Marinette, Wisconsin. He also clerk for 5 years at W. J. Wallace in Escanaba, Delta, Michigan.
Stella Pamelia, daughter of Phillip and Eliza (Dyer) Sickler was born May 2, 1857 in Menekaunee (East Marinette), Marinette, Wisconsin.
Wilmer and Stella were married April 3, 1878 and were the parents of 4 children.
In 1882 Wilmer purchased a store in Stambaugh, Iron, Michigan with his merchandise arriving by train. He moved to Norway, Dickinson, Michigan in 1884 serving again as clerk for W.J. Wallace until 1888, when he purchased an interest in the business. In 1890 Wilmer became the sole proprietor of the store. During the first decade of the 20th century he moved the business to a new townsite, a 2-story 3-store building at the corner of Nelson and Raymond Streets. It was the leading hardware store in Dickinson County, stocking farm machinery, household items, paint, wallpaper, sporting goods, Winchester guns and shells, blasting supplies for miners and loggers.
Wilmer built the 1st home in south Norway; was the city's 1st treasurer, alderman and member of the school board. He was a member of the Norway Lodge, Iron Mountain Chapter, the Hugh McCurdy Commandery Ahmet Temple at Marquette, Iron Mountain Lodge B.P.O.E., Pine Camp, M.W.A.; Norway Lodge, Sons of Herman.
The family purchased property and managed several businesses until mid-1930s. They opened the Valencia Dance Hall in 1934 and later on a Roller Rink.

Wilmar Ramsdell, a businessman for more than 36 years, fell asleep Thursday morning to awaken in the Great Beyond.
